Review of Deep Impact (1998) by David S — 05 Jan 2015
Deep Impact demonstrates the vital necessity of hiring a good editor.
Sure, the premise is silly, but when did that matter by itself? A lot of fun movies have silly premises.
What makes this movie especially awful is the bad acting, interminable scenes that are utterly unnecessary, and the choice of MSNBC newsies as the heroes of the story.
Honestly, more attention is focused on the internal politics of the newsroom than the impending doom of the earth and all who live there.
Don't be fooled into thinking that there will be any decent action in this movie. There isn't. What little there is makes 1950s Godzilla movies look pretty realistic.
Overall, this movie would be improved by cutting at least 45 minutes of office politics out of it, a bigger special effects budget, and a lot less Tea Leoni trying to appear like a serious reporter.
