Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Adam R — 20 Jun 2014
As with a lot of the blockbuster films of the 90's, some gold is usually buried deep amid a truck load of cheese and corn. Here, the core elements of Deep Impact (let's forget the film that stole it's thunder at the time) are actually quite good and the build up is solid.
The sequences in space are the highlights for me as is Duvall's performance but as soon as we delve deeper into Jenny's father issues or Elijah Wood's teen wife things go pear shaped quickly.
The closing destruction sequences arrive and leave too quickly and all of a sudden the human race is wiping the sweat off their brow and getting back to enjoying a rousing speech. A talented cast and idea wasted, but overall, not terrible.
