Review of Deep Crimson (1996) by Ernesto S — 20 Jan 2013
Ripstein remarkable movie about real life based serial killers goes deeper than any Hollywood version of it, from The Honeymoon Killers to Natural Born Killers. Deep Crimson shows a unique understanding and profound love connection between two unlikeable characters.
You're supposed to hate Nicolas and Coral, but instead you actually feel their own frustrations and understand their actions. With a splendid brief performance by Julieta Egurrola, wonderful art direction, music and top notch acting by Giménez Cacho and Regina Orozco, this is the movie that should've won the Oscar for Foreign Movie in 1997.
