Review of Deconstructing Harry (1997) by Jacob W — 20 Aug 2007
Possibly Allen's most irreverent film, if that's at all possible. The opening scene alone will have you splitting your sides with laughter while hanging off the edge of your seat. A writer goes slightly mad as his life falls apart.
Well, the plot is sort of beside the point, in a way. Some brilliant stories within the story, and surreal, highly amusing scenes of pscyhoanalytic exploration. The point here isn't so much the story, as it is the characters.
Allen fans will enjoy seeing Mariel Hemingway cast as a meddling yenta (a far cry from Tracy in Manhattan).
