Review of Deconstructing Harry (1997) by Mark L — 26 Feb 2009
Woody Allen peaks in the creation of what may be his most dislikeable character, Harry Block. Allen's gift is for presenting himself in such a starkly honest way that we can't help hate him, even though we know we're supposed to be hating him.
Allen is always at his best when the comedy in the words hides behind the complete absurdity of life, and the switching over of characters with Allen that spills over into his world is definitely complete in its complete absurdity.
