Review of Deconstructing Harry (1997) by Courtney C — 04 Feb 2009
Lately i've been FIENDING for Deconstructing Harry.
FIENDING FOR IT.. I want to be watching it RIGHT NOW. FUCK. .. ohhhhhh my god I wish I had deconstructing harry on dvd or even fucking vhs or somehow I could download it oh fuck fuck fuck I need it I fucking need to be watching deconstructing harry right now. i've had such a craving. I was even watching 2min clips on youtube! i've had the SHAKES thinking about it.
That movie is so amazing. it's unlike any other woody allen film. no other WA film is nastier than Harry. this is not our woody, this is something else. along with Husbands and Wives, DH is the most "real" of Woody's 90s films.
It's like the Frank Grimes episode of the simpsons, where our lovable hero homer simpson is transposed into "reality" and the real-life effects of his tomfoolery are revealed. Deconstructing Harry similarly exposes the undeniable negative realities of our lovable Woody, in this case, Woody Allen, the persona rather than the man. when Harry is deconstructed, the very idea of a persona is deconstructed. this movie is one of woody's most stylistically experimental films, and one of his best.
