Review of Deck the Halls (2006) by Michelle L — 06 Dec 2008
Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick) is a family man living in a small town in New England. He is known as the Christmas guy in town. That is his holiday. His perception of Christmas is based on tradition and proper planning. Suddenly, his world is turned upside down when the new neighbour Buddy Hall (Danny De Vito) moves in with his family. Buddy eventually finds his calling in Christmas decorating his house so much, that hopefully it can be seen from space. This turns into a war between Finch and Hall and in the process they discover the true meaning of Christmas.
This is not that bad I must say. Always liked Matthew Broderick (despite the fact that he is really repeating himself over and over no matter what role he is doing) and Danny De Vito. "Deck The Halls" has found the balance so it does not enter the cheesiness state fully out. It has certain moments and I think the essence of the story is alright. Christmas is a time of the year that should be spent with the closest people in your life. So, three thumbs up for me.
