THIS IS CINEMA. Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave' is a near masterpiece that invites you to witness a most tragic yet beautiful love story. The acclaimed Korean director delivers one of its finest films by combining Hitchcockian mystery elements and a devastating concept of love that channels Wong Kar-wai.
And this is a Park Chan-wook movie, so expect a lot of dark humor during the most unusual moments. But beware, because its labyrinthine plot challenges you to pay attention all the time. The photography, the montage, the acting.
.. Sure the screenplay relies maybe a little more than expected on coincidences, but the result is more than satisfying and makes you forget these tiny details. Now I want this to win the Academy Award for Best International Film.
