Clearly there must have been big bucks on offer to lure Ewan and Hugh into this undemanding thriller. It's a good job too as they allow what would have been a formulaic TV style movie to transcend into a decently tense and entertaining pulp mystery.

Ewan McGregor sports an ill advised haircut as a nerdy accountant suckered into a world of meaningless sex with Wall Street types by the smooth as you like Hugh Jackman. Things, of course, are too good to be true and soon Ewan is accused of murder and in love with Michelle Williams....another major talent punching well below her weight here.

Deception doesn't pull too many surprises, it's all fairly obvious but some how it achieves the feat of not making this seem to matter too much as the story itself is compelling and the three leads deliver performances that seem to know they're in a trashy thriller but they're going to have fun with it anyway.

Consequently Deception is a very fun thriller, not likely to win any wards or come at the top of anyone's greatest of all time lists but this is a very enjoyable 90 minutes.
