Review of Deception (2008) by Nikolai E — 02 Mar 2009
The script seems to undergo a dogged pursuit of mediocrity, portraying an absolutely stripped-down skeleton of a con film that's doesn't have a single novel or interesting aspect. The only twist is the 'sex club' angle, which is bewilderingly kept totally separate from the main plot.
It could be replaced with a stamp-collecting society with no real impact on the story. It's difficult to explain what Hugh and Ewan are doing here, besides forcing me to wade through this cinematic bog.
If you've ever seen a con movie before, you'll scarcely find a scrap of intrigue to chew on. Simplistic, naive, not worth your time.
