Review of Deception (2008) by Sabrina H — 19 Jan 2013
Jonathan McQuarry: [after having sex with a woman in The List] Can I ask you something?
Why do you do this?
Wall Street Belle (Charlotte Rampling): For the same reason that men do it - the economics.
Of the arrangement. It's intimacy without intricacy. I work past midnight almost every.
Night.
This was alright, it was pretty easy to unravel the deception because there was enough visual breadcrumbs to follow throughout the film but the real twist was the main protagonist actions after Wyatt blows up his apartment. The story was sound and the acting was pretty credible, everyone did a good job-- Ewan McGregor just exudes boy-next-door charms, it's was easy to buy ino his character's naiveness. I have never been a fan of Michelle Williams but she was charming and she so gorgeous in this movie that one can see her appeal. Hugh Jackman was perfect as con-man-Wyatt, he played it beautifully and so convincing; then, psycho-Wyatt wa sufficiently creepy. I didn't like seeing Hugh Jackman like that, but it was kind of refreshing from his normal heroic-roles. Overall, this was an okay film, interesting enough to check it out and retain my attention to sit through the entire film without being bored to tears. I'd check it out again when it comes on the tube but I won't spend my hard-earned funds to watch it again.
