Review of December Boys (2007) by Ashok C — 28 Apr 2008
Not your typical coming of age film. Also, not something everyone would enjoy due to it's contrasting understated script juxtaposed with over the top child like religious conceputalization and imagery.
A very quiet yet powerful film. albeit, presented with a youthful innocense as selectively reflected by one many years later. However, I think that is the whole point. As we get older we tend to filter out the negative and/or the mundane in exchange for confalulation.
Also, this film lets us see through the eyes of those who lack life experience yet have experienced more than most their age. What's confabulation and what's a reflection of the stage of life these boys are living? Overall, a moving story that requires a box of kleenex before it is done.
