Review of December Boys (2007) by Jeremy W — 06 Jan 2008
Look Ma, an Aussie who doesn't suck: Teresa Palmer (though I cannot confirm ;)! This is an indie coming of age movie set in the '60s in a remote Australian location, showing the story of four young orphans, and one love interest.
It's neat but it didn't engage me half as much as the first half of The Notebook, or the movie it reminds me the most of, The Summer of '42. I suspect that's partly because it's more a story of the orphans' summer away than of the Radcliffe-Palmer liaison, and then because I couldn't quite feel the bonding among the orphans.
Maybe it was the poor audio, or maybe there wasn't enough depth. It's still worth a watch, if you like Radcliffe and/or the genre.
