Review of Decasia: The State of Decay (2002) by Caleb G — 13 Jun 2007
You must be an artist to appreciate this film. Bill Morrison gathered decaying film strips and spliced them together into a feature film. He deliberately chose films which were "fighting to stay alive.
" The best example of this comes in the form of a boxer who actually "punches" the decay creeping in from the right side of the screen. The films deftly explores man's relation to nature, as well as the character of film in general.
Few will appreciate (or even sit through) this film, but those who do will understand why some have called it the best film ever made.
