Review of Deathgasm (2015) by Rob T — 08 Jan 2016
Movie Review.
DEATHGASM (" 'cause lowercase is for pussies").
After an extremely disappointing year for horror, well, at the mainstream level. 2016 (horror-wise) has started off with a gem from the previous year and, boy, does it kick ass. From afar, the idea of 'combining' horror and Metal seems a bit "random." However, if you take into account, for example, that early Death and Necrophagia took inspiration from horror films of their day into their lyrics, then it's not that difficult to see how the two could be blended together. I'm not even sure what else to say besides I fucking loved it! I should have perhaps clarified that DEATHGASM is a horror comedy in the beginning but I'm bringing it up now (deal with it). The comedic elements are well timed, I did not expect to laugh as much as I did, and I had a lot of fun. There's a lot of Metal oriented humor and I think that, for metalheads, it's going to be instantly relatable [and, possibly, make the film a bit more enjoyable]. Even with that being the case, I wouldn't say "don't watch it if you're not into metal," no, trust me, this is a horror [comedy] movie that can still be enjoyed by anyone. Something else that I found amusing was that DEATHGASM takes a spin on the [rediculous] claim that "metal is the Devil's music" (*cough* even though it's true lol) by having demons being summoned through that music. The blood, in particular, was really cool to look at--it's this crimson color that on Blu-Ray looks "delicious;" it actually makes you want the film to spray as much as they can, and they certainly do! That's the best part!!! DEATHGASM uses practical effects to a great extent, and it allows for the kills to look so fucking awesome. I hate spoiling stuff but there was this one scene where the heroes use sex toys to fight off the demons and, what made that part even better was that my dad was watching, and it destroyed my ribs. Holy fuck, that was funniest thing ever! Thank you (cast and crew of Deathgasm) for that. In conclusion, the director makes a massive fucking splash in his directorial debut. I look forward to the second one (and I hope they show it in theaters. If I have to put up with another painful-to-watch remake, I will kil-.....watch DEATHGASM instead smile emoticon ). I would put DEATHGASM at the very top of 2015's best horror movies. And yeah, fucking METAL! \m/.
