Review of Death Wish 3 (1985) by Ian P — 12 Feb 2010
Insanely awesome and laughably bad at the same time. It ditches the vestiges of the first movie such as social commentary and originality and replaces them with an insatiable bloodlust and pure melodrama. Bearing in mind what the first one was like and what the series has become makes it even funnier.
The climax, which is essentially an all out war between Bronson and an entire neighborhood versus the street gang that infest it (for like twenty minutes), is one of the finest things ever committed to film. It's so viscerally pleasing; John Woo would be proud. I half expected to see player one and player two at the bottom during the end when Bronson and his de facto cop partner are running and gunning through the neighborhood. It was at that point I realized I was watching possibly the greatest movie of all time. It would be great on a grindhouse double bill.
