Review of Death Wish 3 (1985) by Explodingboy1989 — 23 Feb 2009
LMAO. This movie is INCREDIBLE. The entire premise of the film makes no sense at all! Just about everything that happens in this film is so illegal and against the law it's hilarious. The relationship between the police chief and Kersey is bizarre, with the police chief calling him "dude" about every chance he gets, patting him on the back for ruthlessly killing unconvicted criminals at his discretion, even engaging in a fist fight with him just to test his character, as if it was some sort of frat house initiation.
The writers for the film obviously just took the piss towards the end of the script, as the story ultimately devolves into senseless violence. Kersey essentially decides to just go on a non-stop killing rampage at the end and the entire neighborhood he's supposed to be protecting turns into Afghanistan, with the police chief showing up just in time to kill a few random people on his own (because reading them their rights or even determining first if they were actually involved in the gang would take too much time).
The film also includes a rather bizarre and unsettling scene in which Marina Sirtis (best known as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Deana Troi) is raped and then killed. Also, Kersey's girlfriend is killed by her car exploding simply by bumping into another car.
The nudity, explosions, and certainly the violence are all gratuitous. Charles Bronson seems to be along just for the ride, showing no real emotion either way throughout the entirety of the film. Seems like he just showed up for the paycheck cause he had nothing better to do.
Add into the mix a confusingly awkward score from JIMMY PAGE (of Led Zeppelin) and you have one entertaining movie. 5 stars. The best comedy I've ever seen.
