As a millennial, I never got to see the original movie. However, this was a good reminder of the action movies Bruce Willis has been in. Story line was predictable, but done the right way and I might say an "intelligent" way.
Critics... they are critics. I can see that this movie was not an artistic masterpiece, highly entertaining, however. If you're looking for an artistic masterpiece, then this movie is not for you.
If you are looking for action-packed entertainment with a decent story, then this movie is for you.
