Review of Death Wish (1974) by Carl M — 12 Jan 2008
While I did not expect much from the film I was certainly surprised at how well it delivered. The 'man versus city' theme has always fascinated me, and Death Wish builds upon that topic well. What could have been a very heavy handed film turns out to be fairly nuanced and morally ambiguous.
I can imagine the film being a strong inspiration for Paul Schrader as he wrote Taxi Driver, which would make it's debut two years later.
