Review of Death Wish (1974) by Rosa E. A — 21 Mar 2009
I know this movie is a classic and that it became super popular in turbulent times, but I haven't really cheered for vigilante types since my childhood, when I saw vigilantes as super heroes. Now, I just see them as so very far from being noble that I can't view them without distaste.
Plus, it's just too dated for me. I couldn't help thinking about all the evidence he kept leaving behind -- he was so sloppy and careless. Everyone he shot seemed so flat, so one-dimensional, so obviously bad -- all the better to make his deeds seem heroic.
I liked the cop who was investigating him a LOT better.
