Review of Death to Smoochy (2002) by Zane T — 03 Feb 2009
Okay, I'll give this movie a pass. It's corny at times, but it's more than a 2 hour Barney joke. It's actually nice to see Robin Williams used only when needed, rather than seeing him going around like he's on coke.
I liked the silly songs and the way Edward Norton's character is against corporate marketing of Smoochy, but encourages kids to eat healthy and only has healthy foods at his shows, which is ironic.
I liked that Harvey Fierstein is a sleazy mobster. The casting was off and the acting doesn't work. But the overall message that children programs are corrupt is funny, because it's probably true.
