Review of Death to Smoochy (2002) by Shane D — 20 Jul 2010
For a long time, the image of Williams and Norton clowning about in the promotional material for this movie turned me off ever watching it. Its not that Iâ??m not a fan of both actors, quite the contrary, but it just seemed like I could predict it being a waste of time.
After having a friend rave about its validity, I sat down to watch it. Whilst not setting the world on fire, itâ??s a tidy little piece of work. In reality its more a showpiece for Norton than it is for Williams who goes missing for most of the film.
If anything Catherine Keener is who steals the show, bringing a little balance to the competing whirlwinds. It actually has a fair bit of heart overall and whilst commenting on the state of childrens entertainment (see marketing) it doesnâ??t stray too far away from being easily enjoyable.
A pleasant surprise.
