Review of Death to Smoochy (2002) by Matthew G — 02 Jun 2008
This is one of those movies that I feel has never had justice done. It is my most underrated movie. Most people find this movie unappealing form the get go because of the odd combination of crime and mob mixed with with a kids show, but the odd combination gives the actors talents freedom to shine.
I think some viewers will find the theme of insanity and derelictness that Robin Williams character brings to the film will overpower the quality of the rest of the movie. But I think if viewers will open up a little they'll see one of the great dark comedies ever made.
As always Norton puts out a stellar performance, where he can once again mix the average benevolent male with a vicious personality that rarely is exposed. This movie may not be considered a classic or even a great movie, but it should be.
