Review of Death to Smoochy (2002) by Robert B — 22 Feb 2010
Very strange, but very amusing satire from DeVito. At times it seems a bit over the top, but when watching a comedy who really cares. This one has some wit to it as well and DeVito doesn't do a horrible job directing it either. Edward Norton is a likeable character in this one who you are just constantly waiting for him to lose it and kick the whole Ned Flanders act and bring out the inner Travis Bickle. Robin Williams surprisingly is funny in this. He is extremely vulgar and puts out some great over the top yelling comedic scenes. Overall the premise is a bit unique, but the acting is amusing if nothing else this proved that Robin Williams can be funny.
Favorite line when Rainbow Randolph is smashing a tv that had Smoochy on it he yells:"Die you bastard son of Barney!!!".
