Review of Death to Smoochy (2002) by Taylor S — 22 Jan 2011
A movie so strange that it's worth seeing once. I usually like Robin Williams but I found him to be the weakest part of this movie. He's the only one who curses a lot and it's rather strident; his behavior is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and sometimes annoying.
It's a dark comedy for sure, but it takes dark to a new level of cynicism and perverseness that I have yet to see equaled in a film; the ostentatious and gaudy children's show is the violent contrast to the lewd, messy behavior we see behind the scenes of the show.
It's a bit messy, but it manages not to collapse under its own craziness.
