Review of Death Ship (1980) by Christopher R — 17 Jan 2017
This movie had a lot going for it. Great concept, George Kennedy, a bloody shower, poison candies...and parts of the ship working on its own.
Unfortunately, there was little tension. The acting was par, but not great. And frankly most of the ship was decrepit...so why are the engines looking so freshly painted and like they were just made?
That aside, it was enjoyable. The concept of a Nazi torture vessel sailing the seas destroying other ships to get survivors to board so it could use their blood the continue its own existence was pretty good. In fact the whole concept of a ship being alive with so much anger and malice is neat.
Was remade a few years ago as Ghost Ship...and while the kills were much better (and production values as well) it just didn't capture what this movie offers.
