Sure, Death Race's got good actors, neatly-modded cars, lots o' death, an underreliance on CGI, and action, but this film isn't any fun at all. The action is poorly structured and edited, and it feels more tiring than exciting, with the downtime between sequences being punctuated by bad dialogue, failed attempts to satirize America's obsession with television ratings, a weak plot, one-dimensional characters, and a lack of coolness in the vein of "Mad Max" or "The Running Man".

Being directed by a hack named Paul W.S. Anderson, I'm not surprised that this "B" movie goes down to a "D" movie, using all sorts of ideas done before in racing games from "Quantum Redshift" to even "Mario Kart", and overdoing the whole "flash, bang, boom" thing and not even focusing on anything else except the blood and profanity that give "Death Race" its hard "R" rating.

Plus, the rap/pop soundtrack just stinks. A guilty pleasure, for people with VERY low expectations about this film.
