Review of Death Race (2008) by Zach M — 05 Jun 2010
Death Race is a race at a terminal island prison between inmates were anything goes. Machine guns, armored vehicles, rockets, and high powered vehicles, you name it. This race is streamed online to thousands of paying pay-per view viewers by the Warden of the facility, Hennessey. Frankenstein is on of the most popular drivers and only needs to win one more race to have his released papers signed by Hennessey. Despite the fact Frankenstein was framed with the murder of his wife, he overcomes many obstacles in order to gain his freedom and to ultimately take care of his young daughter by devising a plan with fellow competitor Machine Gun Joe.
This movie is full of action and excitement. The plot is somewhat dry, but the actual racing scenes are well put together and have great visual effects. The plan at the end of the movie to break free off the track and escape gave the film a great twist. I gave this movie a rating of 60% for its great visual effects and camera angles during the racing scenes. Some of the deaths are very gory, but gives a much needed suspense to the movie.
