Review of Death Race 2000 (1975) by Michael F — 22 Oct 2007
Low-budget post-apocalyptic schlock from Roger Corman (although he did not direct it...just produced it).
In a dystopian future America, the national sport is the trans-continental road race, which is so hazardous that nearly every driver perishes each year. Notable exceptions are villainous "Machine Gun" Joe Viturbo (Sylvester Stallone) and reluctant hero "Frankenstein" (David Carradine) who has supposedly survived year after year with bionic replacement body parts. Kinky. Oh yeah...and you score points for moving down pedestrians in your custom-made death car of choice.
However, for the 2000 race, a group of radicals have sent a sexy young saboteur to act as Frankenstein's co-pilot.
Low art was never this good. This is the film equivalent of a Stooges album.
