Review of Death Race 2000 (1975) by Eric H — 10 Aug 2008
A heavy handed b-movie satire about violence and rights in America. If I had been alive when this came out, it might've been one of my favorites, but it has aged too much for me to really get into it.
It is still very entertaining, though. Stallone is having a great time in this and Carradine is good as well. I also enjoyed seeing Martin Kove hamming it up in his short part. If you don't take it seriously, this can one hugely funny comedy what with the scoring points system (the elderly will rake you up 100, and the younger the child the better!) and the over the top violence (that is really mostly implied, rather than blatantly shown, though you still see quick cuts of blood flowing) work perfectly together without taking away from the slight point that the film was trying to make.
