Review of Death Race 2000 (1975) by Lance M — 10 Aug 2009
This was one of Sylvester Stallones less popular movies, but has been turned into a cult classic and has even spawned a remake. Death Race 2000 is a movie about an annual race held in the USA that is performed cross country in a cannonball run fashion where the drivers are encouraged to kill each other and anyone else they see.
It's a really dark ethical movie. Basically the drivers are trying to rack up points by killing pedestrians. One scene that was particularly disturbing was when fans of a driver pushed old people on stretchers out into the street for their favorite driver to hit, apparently theyre worth more points.
It was a pretty cool movie with sort of cheesy acting, but the plot and effects made it pretty cool. The cars are all pretty neat as well. Most have been retro fitted with armour and forms of weapons that add to the gore factor when a pedestrian is killed.
David Carradine plays Sylvesters nemesis and does a pretty good job as a bad guy. I found it was a lot better then the newer movie and still holds its own today. I would definately recommend it.
