Review of Death Race 2 (2010) by Dayna N — 05 Apr 2011
A surprisingly enjoyable straight-to-DVD sequel- or rather prequel.
Yeah, so if you've seen Death Race 1 you'll know it's about Jason Statham pretending to be this crazy masked dude (the real dude dies at the start) in a privatised prison race where they blow each other up and play gangster music at random times.
So this one's basically about the dude who dies at the start and how he came to start racing. Pointless? Definitely.
It's kinda like if the entire Star Wars prequel triology didn't focus on Darth Vader but instead was about the adventures of Greedo, who has five minutes of dialogue in the original trilogy before getting shot in a bar.
But it doesn't matter, because if you liked the first Death Race you'll enjoy this anyway, even if it is massively predictable and less original than casting Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton movie.
TLDR: Liked the first one did you? Go on then, rent it out you cheeky bugger.
