Review of Death Proof (2007) by Steve M — 31 Dec 2012
"Death Proof" might be Quentin Tarantino's weakest film, but it is still storng movie that is a homage to Roger Corman/bad-chicks/car chase flicks. Kurt Russell is fantastic as Stuntman Mike because at first, he is this bad-ass stone cold killer until the tables are turned on him and he then becomes a whining little bitch in the end.
The fodder for this film are exceptional for what they had to do, which was to talk shit and die, but the second set of girls displayed more personality and likability with Rosario Dawson, Zoe Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Traci Thoms eloquently reciting Tarantino's dialogue that is filled with car movie refrences.
Once again, he brings some great and memorable tunes to the table, especially the closing song "Chick Habit," which is perfectly placed for the end credit sequence. For a first time cinematographer, QT does a great job in framing his shots the way he wants them to be frame and does an exceptional job filming the car sequences.
