Review of Death Proof (2007) by Alex M — 14 Jan 2013
The Texas police scene at the hospital bothers me in this movie because there's overwhelming evidence against Stuntman Mike that he surely would be convicted in a trial by jury. There's the skidded tire marks of Stuntman 1971 Chevy Nova on the pavement.
The impact of the crash happening in the Honda Civic's lane and the fact that the Nova launches over the Honda Civic. I guess I will let it slide because the movie is badass. The flow of Quintin Tarantino's is shown brilliantly in this movie.
It's basically two separate instances connected by a crazy lunatic old stuntman. I thought the scene at the bar fir Jungle Julia's birthday was excellent too. Playing good music off the jukebox, getting drunk, and eating food.
Then getting high out on the front porch at the end of the night while rain is dripping on Jungle Julia's outstretched legs. I thought Jungle Julia's legs in particular was magnificent in this movie.
Especially where she sits down on her couch for a bong rip with her legs situated just like the Brigitte Bardot poster behind her on the wall. Jungle Julia's taste in music was excellent in this movie.
Other nice touches I thought included the visiting Arlene's New Jersey accent, and Lee Montgomery's matching yellow Vipers cheerleader outfit and yellow 1972 Ford Mustang. The group of girls in the second half of the movie were badasses.
They leave their friend in a cheerleader outfit out on some creepy dude's farm while they go out and play "ship's mast" on the hood of his 1969 Dodge Charger. Then go pick up a lead pipe and beat the sh*& out of Stuntman Mike.
This is definitely one of my favorite Tarantino movies.
