Review of Death Proof (2007) by Joe M — 12 Jun 2013
Completely underrated! I share an infatuation with strong women just as Quentin Tarantino does, and besides anything else in the film: the women are the focus! In the first half, the crazy stuntman is established as is a false set of sexy women.
The second half begins with a whole new cast: Rosario Dawson, Zoe Bell, Tracie Thoms, and Elizabeth Winstead start off as the new potential victims of the stuntman. Uh-oh, wrong bitches. They flip the script and exploit the exploiter in such a glorious fashion that I cheered by the end.
It isn't a normal film, at all, so I see why there are so many haters, but if you love seeing beautiful women who do their own insane stunts, getting revenge and being totally badass-then you will love this.
Grind house features focus on subjects that aren't common; add Tarantino's touch and you get a film that is unexpected, unconventional in any sense, and was made for a certain audience. If you hated it, there was also someone, like me, who adored it.
It isn't a "normal Tarantino type" of film which is why many people say they don't like it, mainly because the story is simple. Strange, people love all of these remakes...
