Review of Death Proof (2007) by David B — 02 Nov 2014
Once again, Tarantino's gift is bring out a great performance from his lead, this being Kurt Russell, who is great in this and one of the two reason why this film is worth watching but begins as a madman becomes such a wimp towards the end was a little weird.
The god knows how long car chase scene was a thrill to watch, with amazing stunts and driving and other thing that Tarantino can cross of his list. The big, massive problem with the film was the dialog, it was boring, uninteresting and slow, it felt like it was a little arty and maybe written on the spot which was odd because Quentin can write awesome hard-boil dialog but fails very badly.
The final third is very good and the four-some death scene was quite good but the film tries to be really arty. There's plenty of fun to be had with Death Proof, but its imitation of a defunct, low-budget style of movie-making is perhaps too accurate when it comes to the genre's flaws.
Tarantino's worst film to date. Very dissapointing but I guess every world class director has to have one bad film.
