Review of Death Proof (2007) by André D — 02 Jan 2016
Tarantino's Grindhouse picture is less an homage to the 70s exploitation B-movie genre and more just a straight, loving copy. The attention to detail here is so exact, it speaks to his skill how UNskillful he can make it seem.
Unfortunately, on top of the charmingly amateurish editing and the over-the-top characters, that genre is also full of bad dialogue and terribly stilted acting, and Tarantino doesn't shy away from those things here.
Is it Tarantino's worst movie? Probably. But if looked at as a purely goofy and loving homage to cheesy genre fare (not to mention some of the great car stuff ever), it's a fun and interesting enough experiment in the middle of this master's career.
