Review of Death Proof (2007) by Nick M — 28 Jul 2011
Death Proof is classic Tarantino, it's got blood, rumbling cars, people being killed in cars, & a lot of girls. Death Proof is about a man named Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), who is lets just say a little bit psycho.
The reason he's so "psycho" is because he finds girls that he wants to kill, but here's the catch, he kills them with his car. What I thought was a bit strange was that most of the movie doesn't even have Russell in it, & it doesn't even have that much car stunts in it, except towards the end.
The movie's basically set up with 2 groups of girls. The first group, which is introduced in the very beginning, are pretty much just a bunch of potheads with really nice legs, & one of them has ads in the streets all over texas for her radio station, so basically this one is a stoner DJ, & her name's Jungle Julia.
They only last at least the first 20 minutes of the film. The second group are four more girls, they're more badasses, two of them are stunt doubles that work in famous movies, one of them is a make-up artist for famous people on the set of movies "like Lindsay Lohan", & one of them is an actress.
Now, you're obviously supposed to like the second group better, because they last a lot longer. It gets really interesting when the big car ramble starts up. What I mean by "car ramble" is that ole' Stuntman Mike runs his big-ass muscle car right into the girls nice white car when they're doing stunts on it, & what I mean by stunts is one of the girls hanging off the front of the car, by hanging onto belts which are tied to the windows of the car.
& then Mike bumps into them & it turns into a crazy car chase. Death Proof is a film with a lot of dialogue scenes & little action sequences, but when the action sequences do come around they're pretty damn crazy!
