Review of Death of a Telemarketer (2021) by Mauro_Lanari — 22 May 2022
(Mauro Lanari).
The movie mentions the Gordon Gekko of "Wall Street" (1987 and 2010), yet the reference to the Jordan Belfort by Scorsese (2013) would have been more appropriate. Unlike those 3 blockbusters, where the alleged anti-heroes receive so much attention that they have become iconic idols (negative publicity doesn't exist), the debutant in t he feature film Ridgeway treats his protagonist for what he is: a miserable little cog however indispensable for the functioning of the great machine of capitalism. He does not direct a dramedy, since the comedy component is always inserted within a predominant dramatic atmosphere. The script is not without flaws, the worst is the epilogue, yet this David hits the mark better than the overrated Goliaths.
