Review of Death of a President (2006) by Tommy H — 16 Jun 2008
An exceptionally inert attempt to profit from the seemingly dominant and worldwide anti-Bush sentiment. While the subject matter is not inflammatory (as dickheads who make money or gain attention by blowing things way out of proportion would have you believe), it is also unworthy of its own movie.
There was no real story here; the focus of the movie seemed to be on the technology that allowed "characters" from the movie to be inserted into the background of actual Bush footage (though this is done in a fairly poor way that is reminiscent of a five-year-old saying "Look what I can do!").
And though on the surface it looks like anti-Bush propaganda, it actually makes him out to be more of a martyr. It also concludes with a sort of twist (something a substantial documentary probably shouldn't do) that I guess is supposed to make you think about the issue of racial profiling that are deeply and constantly ingrained into the American psyche by the media as well as your own willingness to buy into them (though this is done poorly as the stereotype is presented and supported by what is presumably concrete evidence within the film).
Overall, I'd say it sucked, but just because it was retarded...and bland. If you want to waste two hours on something so-so, consider turning this movie on and then taking a nap.
