Review of Death of a President (2006) by Megan O — 20 May 2009
Such a clever idea and executed brilliantly. Of course this is how it would have played out had Bush ever been shot, especially the way they would have gone about apprehending a suspect the government would just assume fits the description (so a muslim male most likely - probably my favourite part of the film was when the man leading the investigation said they looked for muslim names first). And the fact that at the end it claimed that even though they knew him to be innocent now he was still imprisoned for no reason what so over except that the government just didn't want to release him. It is a sad fact of the world we live in that if this type of thing was to happen then of course the person accused of doing the action would be judged more on his alleged terrorist links and his religion rather than the actually evidence. That was what this spoof documentary was driving at, had Bush been shot then rather than working on finding the actual person who carried out the actual shooting the government would instead find the suspect they found most compelling and then try and place evidence around him.
Overall fanstically made, it seems real (I had to keep reminding myself it was fiction in order to calm down at the injustice of it all) and it does reflect the reality of our day and age. Well worth a watch.
