Review of Death of a Nation (2018) by Adam T — 07 Aug 2018
I went just because I felt like it thought I lean pretty libertarian. I don't think the description accurately describes it at all. 90% of the movie was just comparing Democrats to Nazis. Some fine times were made like when he interviewed Richard Spencer as he showed how Spencer's positions other than nationalism didn't align with the American right at all and how he showed how no southern democrats became republican during the supposed party shift.
But others were underdeveloped like his dismissal of Nixon's drug war, all he basically said was "Drugs are bad, m'kay-Mr. Garrison." The drug war can easily be seen as a use of the government to imprison political enemies.
He simultaneously defends the draft (mandatory servitude) while decrying slavery (mandatory servitude). He only displays the most characteristic caricature of a Republican in a ego stroking session of righteousness.
At best the movie was a mixed bag with many questionable directorial decisions made of inserting pointless scenes about Hitler and patriotic singing. I'm sure my grandparents would love it.
