Review of Death of a Nation (2018) by Holly P — 16 Aug 2018
No intention to see this due to the misinformation that the trailer revealed about this movie. This review is to introduce actual positions to provide clarity. Lincoln was not elected in 1860 to abolish slavery - his primary position on that was to prevent the extension of it, not to end it.
Even in the early part of the ACW he stated very clearly that his goal was to reunite the country and if he could do so by not freeing a single slave he would do it. Revisionist history keeps forgetting that message.
Further this movie states that the Democratic party is all up in arms now just like they were in 1860. If you compare the party platforms from 1860 to today you will find that the 1860 Democrats more closely resemble the 2018 Republicans and the reverse is true.
This is also conveniently glossed over in favor of simplifying labels. It is unfortunately telling that this is nothing but an op-ed piece rather than some actual documentary.
