A painfully stupid movie that desperately hoped that you slept through history class.

The “republican” and “democratic” parties of Lincoln’s era had almost nothing to do with their modern incarnations. Anyone who buys the basic premise of this film must also be shooting at British Soldiers. Moreover, most of the philosophical beliefs of the modern conservative were, back then, the platform of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Not the republicans who Lincoln led. All of the hot button issues of the day like abortion, minority rights, women’s rights, religious rights, etc. etc. we’re agreed upon by both parties because there was no minority constituency to cater to with those issues. Every voter was, effectively, a straight white man.
