Review of Death Note (2017) by Dan H — 25 Aug 2017
The actors all do fine jobs, with my favorite being L, as portrayed by Lakeith Stanfield from Get Out. Margaret Qualley from The Nice Guys is pretty lovely and great as Mia. Really dug Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, and Nat Wolff was pretty good as our main lead Light, a kid who grows a God complex when he discovers the Death Notebook.
I will say I feel that the film tried too hard to keep him the "good guy". I found the film to be interesting (and the cinematography was always pretty), but it felt pretty condensed and rushed, plus it would seem it is only loosely based on the original Manga.
I did some research and it seems much was changed. While I enjoyed my time with Death Note, it really only serves as a way to get people interested in what I've been told is one fantastic manga.
