Long time fan of the anime. In short, it's rushed. The film itself is so close to being great but you just miss out on all the nuances of the characters. If this would have been a miniseries, it would have been a success.
Its crazy to think anyone approved this if they've seen the original series. It doesn't show the genius of Light and how great he was at out witting everyone but L and then the show only focuses on the quirks of L other than his genius.
Sad their won't be another try on this as it was filmed beautifully just didn't give it enough time to tell the story.
