This movie **** sucks. I was about 30 minutes in when I decided to stream it on rabb.it so a friend could watch with me, and the text chat was more interesting than anything happening in the movie. I had just finished watching the tv show earlier that day, so it was still fresh in my mind.
Light is still supposed to be the really smart guy, but he is nothing like in the show. In this he is some stereotypical edgy teenager with a dad that "doesn't understand" him. I guess in the movie some of the rules of the notebook are different, like you can't see the shinigami unless you're the owner of the book in this movie.
The deaths all look fake. The first death was a decapitation and it looked really cheap. L is really bad in this movie also. L doesn't do or say anything intelligent, he just tries to sound smart. The actor that plays him always looks like he is about to cry.
I don't think they ever really explain how they caught on to Kira in this, because you have specify the cause in this notebook. In the show, they caught on to Kira because every criminal had a heart attack.
Light is pretty stupid in this and shows some girl his notebook because he has a crush on her. The thing that was great about the show is that there were 2 very intelligent people competing against each other for their sense of justice.
This review is kind of a mess just because I don't know where to start with all of it. It's just awful. If you want to watch a good show, watch the Death Note anime, if you want to watch this movie, watch it with friends and go in knowing it's awful and that you need to make fun of it to enjoy it.
