Review of Death Note (2017) by Tanner J — 26 Aug 2017
When I first heard that there was going to be an American redo of Death Note, my initial impression was, ugh Hollywood is going to screw this up. Then I heard Netflix was involved so it gave me some hope. Well this version of Death Note proves two things. Just because it is Netflix doesn't mean it'll be good and whoever tries to make foreign properties for American audiences doesn't ever seem to have confidence that a direct translation will ever work, even though time and time again they screw up everything that is good about the property to "Americanize" it and it never works.
BTW, take note (Haha) of whoever cast this movie and never higher them again. You never truly appreciate good acting until you are subjected to poor acting. I shudder to think what a shallow pool of talent they had to choose from if all they could get was those three "actors" for the lead roles. Horrible choices sub par acting.
