Review of Death Note (2017) by Alexander T — 24 Aug 2017
Alright we can all agree that it's not the same as the manga/anime for the Japanese adaptation of Death Note. I've been a hardcore fan of Death Note since I was a child, but I put aside my difference to stop comparing this film with the manga.
Once you overcome that obstacle and be open-minded, the film is pretty well done with the exception of the awkward comedic moments that the director placed in. What I enjoy most is that Light Yagami or Light Turner played the audience.
At first, I thought it was hilarious that the director wanted to make Light as pathetic, childish coward. Yet in the end, he fooled us all and had control of the devastating situation. That's why Ryuk thought humans such as Light as interesting.
What makes this Light similar to the Japanese adaptation is his skills in manipulation. This give the audience to think who is the lesser of two evils: Light Yagami (Turner) or Ryuk, the Shinigami.
