Review of Death Note (2017) by Goldyray Y — 25 Aug 2017
Not exactly for fans of the original media (Manga/Anime) but serves more for those who haven't seen the original and hopefully those who have seen this movie and find the premise interesting will look into the original material. So in saying that, if you're a fan of the original series you may find yourself upset at the creative liberties. Just remember, you've seen the story already, expecting a movie from the source material to be exact, especially when there are already 2 movies that exist that were made to be close to the source material, is kind of stupid. Why watch the same story over and over again when the original's great?
Now, I'm a fan of the original and found myself kind of upset. But at the same time I watched it with my Mother who hasn't seen any of anime or anything and she was way into it. So, for anyone who hasn't seen Death Note in its anime form or manga form will enjoy this much more.
I must admit, you have more reason to cheer for the protagonist in this version than in any other. I recommend it if you don't know anything about death note. Otherwise, it is worth watching still. Even though I found myself a bit upset at things I was rather engrossed. I with there was more Ryuk though, that's my number 1 complaint. Oh, and the guy who played L did a great job! It ended as if there could be a sequel which was annoying. It left me curious about what may happen next and since these ratings aren't the best I'm afraid they may not make another one. Now that it's been half a day since I've watched the movie, I am finding myself remembering it more as good than bad. Haha, I was hoping they had that bad ass scene from the anime where he's eating a chips and writing names and it's all done with that quick animation. "I'll eat a chip with one hand!" *chomp* "and write names with the other!" Haha. Out of context and alone that scene is funny as heck. Anyway, it's more than worth a watch now that I'm thinking back on it. I even gave it a star extra for making me like it more after seeing it.
